There’s no question that retail banking is undergoing a huge transformation. A large part of this is driven by open banking and PSD2, which will drive a new wave of innovation and customer-focused services as a result of banks having to open up customer data to third-party software and app providers through open APIs. Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple, along with other new players from outside of the industry, are already exploring the opportunities that this presents, compounding the need for traditional retail banks to step up if they want to survive.

Efma’s 45th Congress in Rome will provide a stage for pioneers from both inside and outside of the industry to showcase the new face of banking. Delegates will find out how they can achieve sustainable competitive advantages to stay the course, win the customer and generate new profits.

How to tackle the aftermath of PSD2
• Why the Plug & Play philosophy is key in an open banking era
• The need to shift from ego-systems to eco-systems to become more efficient
• The new paradigm of digital transformation
• The evolution of leadership and culture
• Repositioning for new ecosystems and applying a start-up mentality
• Getting ready for future disruptive scenarios: how BigTechs and platformification can lead to a fundamental shift in the industry
• De-risking the digitisation journey to new value
• Transform the operating model to fend off margin erosion from efficient competitors
• Rethinking governance for speed and systematic innovation
• Transforming the IT legacy infrastructure
• Bridging the capabilities gap in digital with customer self-service, bots and analytic engines
• Sustainable banking
• The need to become obsessed about the customer
• Demonstrating customer obsession in your own behaviours

As well as benefitting from unique networking opportunities, attendees will also have the chance to learn from Efma’s Global Innovation Award winners who are already succeeding in moving the industry forward.
