How the world turns. From being the darling of Asia, the PSEi Index and the PHP are among the worst-performing markets/currencies in the region this year. The PSEi has gone from an all-time high in January, to an 18-month low in June, and back up again. What's going on?

The domestic economy remains robust with key indicators still encouraging. What's changed from previous periods is that government infrastructure spending is gaining pace and demand from China (tourists, gaming revenue and property take-up) has become a visible factor.

Ironically, it is precisely this growth that is causing market headwinds. Inflation has visibly accelerated. Investment and infrastructure expansion have driven imports, pushing the current account from a near-15-year surplus into a deficit. All this against a backdrop of rising interest rates and trade tensions worldwide.

With the PSEi bouncing off "bear market" territory, investors are asking: Are we there yet? Was that the bottom? Is the PSEi due for a solid rebound, or headed for under-shoot? How has the central bank fared in managing expectations? More fundamentally, which companies are prepared for the weak PHP/rising interest rate world?

We hope that our dbAccess Philippines conference, with senior management of some of the top Philippine companies, can help you navigate the fast-changing landscape and answer some of these key questions.
