The American Accounting Association is the largest community of accountants in academia. Founded in 1916, we have a rich and reputable history built on leading-edge research and publications. The diversity of our membership creates a fertile environment for collaboration and innovation. Collectively, we shape the future of accounting through teaching, research and a powerful network, ensuring our position as thought leaders in accounting.

The topics of the seminar are designed for a broad audience, including deans, chairs, and program directors. The program begins with a "Networking Breakfast" open to all conference attendees.

For the 2019 meeting in Tampa, we have designed a mix of “at large” sessions and concurrent sessions customized to appeal to either department chairs or graduate program directors. Some of the topics and guests for this year's program include:

• Grant Thornton CEO Michael McGuire discusses current issues in the profession
• IMA CEO and President Jeff Thompson presents “The Future of the Accountant in Business”
• Recent accounting graduates share “what they wished they had learned” in their accounting programs
• AICPA presents on complex technological changes impacting the profession and related implications for curriculum redesign
• AACSB updates on recent changes to accreditation standards
Leveraging advisory boards for maximum benefit
• Articulating the value proposition of graduate accounting programs relative to other options for attaining 150 hours
• Strategies for helping new PhDs become excellent classroom teachers
• Designing flexible and responsive curricula
• Teaching accounting students to “learn how to learn”
Saying “No” as a department chair: Strategies for maintaining a healthy work-life balance
• Insights into careers in industry
• Dealing with students in crisis
• Leveraging student organizations for maximum benefit
• Leaders from both APLG and FSA discuss a potential merger of the two organizations
