Following the highly successful sessions last year (attended by more than 250 governors from over 100 HEIs), we are running our next update for Board members, Clerks and members of VCE. This session sits alongside the ‘The Effective (HEI) Audit Committee’ session.
The size and shape of offer and establishments continues to move – and whether the impact of Covid, blended learning or Brexit (to name just a few) - there are a lot of moving parts. Risk registers and financial forecasts are starting to re-establish and become more dependable but what is the five year outlook. Cyber risks, property needs and pension costs all factor in; access to finance has become far more interesting and long term solutions are needed.
The Comprehensive Spending Review is difficult to call but is likely to have ramifications for the financial health of (at least) some of the sector. Alongside this, the OfS seems determined to re-establish its regulatory roots.
James Aston MBE, National Head of Education, will aim to articulate what good practice looks like, will bring together what Boards are looking at and give a perspective on the challenges and distinctive levers available to the OfS, the DfE and Ministers. Drawing on our sector experience, he will use real examples and current issues being addressed by Boards and VCEs to bring matters to life.
The delivery platform is becoming familiar, and the format has roots in James’ Audit Committee and Board Away day sessions which have been running for over 15 years. This will be a 45 minute session of reality checking / horizon scanning and then a question and answer session for 15 minutes.
