This year's focus will be on combating money laundering and the implementation of MiFID II.
The fight against money laundering has not become an explosive issue for companies since the Money Laundering Directive. In a globally networked economy, institutions are repeatedly confronted with embargoes and sanctions and must ensure that they are not inadvertently violated. Fulfilling regulatory requirements in this context presents financial institutions with major challenges in trying to be swift, efficient and comprehensive before entering into business relationships. How can these processes be automated, clearly controlled and thus optimized? Which technological hand tool is available to act and react appropriately?
Since the beginning of 2018, customers have received more protection in their financial and investment decisions with the implementation of the European Financial Markets Directive MiFID II. Legislation requires institutions to adapt their documentation to the technical possibilities. The tightened requirements apply in full to all banking and financial services institutions. With the new recording obligations, the customer demands for transparent financial advice have increased overall. Given the tight timeline for implementation, the financial industry faced major challenges. They should quickly implement the new specifications and adapt their processes accordingly.
Is this done satisfactorily or where is it still (or not)? What insights can one draw in the meantime? And for the customer: have the new guidelines turned out to be both a curse and a blessing?
