The Japanese-German Center was established in 1985 at the instigation of the then heads of government of the Federal Republic of Germany and Japan, Helmut Kohl and Yasuhiro Nakasone. The Center’s mandate is to promote and deepen Japanese-German and international cooperation in the fields of science and culture.
Every year the Japanese-German Center organizes a German-Japanese Young Leaders Forum to foster dialogue between Germany and Japan, to support German-Japanese cooperation, to contribute to fostering mutual relations, and to build a network between young professionals from both countries. The program comprises a ten-day summer school on a socio-political topic relevant to both countries, including visits of institutions and companies, as well as a cultural program. It takes place annually, alternating between Germany and Japan, and is held in English.
