Closing off the year, our 2021 Washington, DC conference will feature panels, presentations, conversations, and engagements on a favorite human pastime: nostalgically reminiscence about the past and the "good old days". It's now more than 40 years since the creation of the 401(k), and many in this industry have seen through the long journey of how this little section in the 1978 Revenue Act overhauled the concept of retirement in America. But instead of just looking at the successes that the defined contribution industry has provided to participants, our agenda will focus more on the mistakes of the past and how we can utilize those experiences and lessons learned to craft a path forward.

Our East Coast event has historically drawn more from plans of the older and more established corporations and organizations, many of them accompanied by a legacy defined benefit plan or are still undergoing the transition from the pensions of old to our current system. We thus aim for this year's event to leverage that fact and help shed light on best practices regarding all things retirement for the defined contribution community.
