The use of water is fundamental for the different human and economic activities. Desalination is seen as a sustainable alternative to promote the comprehensive development of the water response to the growing scarcity of the resource in Chile. It is increasingly necessary to look for alternatives to supply water to communities and productive sectors.
The private sector has a role in the development of desalination projects, considering the investment they represent. Similarly, the decisions of government entities will define the future of the alternatives that can guarantee the country's water resilience in the future.
Although there are technical, environmental and socioeconomic challenges associated with desalination, it is also possible to find opportunities for collaboration between the public and private sectors to promote research, development and implementation of projects.
In this club meeting, GRI members will share their perspectives on this issue and future prospects.
