Indonesia’s economic development and innovative imperative
Indonesia continues to maintain a strong economic growth in 2018, mostly driven by higher domestic demand and investment. However, a large informal economy, unstable commodity prices, and an exasperating regulatory conditions for foreign investors, are just a few of the obstacles that prevent Indonesia from reaching President Joko Widodo’s 9% growth target. Added to these familiar problems is the rise of religious nationalism, creating political instability that raises executives’ concerns about doing business in the country and the long-term health of its economy.

Regardless of these insistent and valid concerns, Indonesia’s innovation economy is booming and could be a catalyst for sustainable long-term growth. Conditions are very similar to those in India and China: Indonesia has a young, upwardly mobile and tech-savvy population, and a flourishing e-commerce industry. Financial technology (fintech) growth is expanding financial inclusion, and companies like Go-Jek are bringing people out of the informal economy. In order for progressive companies to continue to grow and prosper, the Indonesian government will need to provide support and improve its regulatory environment.

At The Future of Finance Indonesia, we will look at the transformation of financial services being driven by adoption of digital technology and platforms, the rise of start-ups and fintechs, the growing market for modern banking services, the use of blockchain, the fight against cybercrime, and the desire for improved financial inclusion. The event is a platform for insight sharing, networking, and strategic planning; and is a must-attend for those with a stake in Asia’s most exciting emerging market.

The Future of Finance Indonesia is the leading annual conference designed for bankers and financial services professionals to know the most current trends in the industry. Join us to meet and network with more than 150+ policymakers, investors, innovators, regulators, academics, local and international business leaders.
