Payment solutions are a particularly fertile ground for innovation from start-ups but also e-commerce giants. Alipay or Amazon are prime examples of out of the industry companies that have developed a stellar service for payments and leveraged it on multiple platforms. The data they collect is undoubtedly of great value. But this Trojan horse also opened new business opportunities: offering financing both to merchants and to end customers. This is a first step towards offering more financial services, such as insurance, savings or financial planning and eating a bigger share of the banks' lunch.
