The goal of IT Financial Management (ITFM) is accurate and cost effective management and planning of IT resources for an enterprise. This is easier said than done. IT usage is notoriously difficult to track and price with several moving parts and variables as inputs.
Add to this mix the rapid pace of technological evolution and the result is a sense of loss of control over IT costs, ad hoc cuts or increases in IT budgets, poor resource allocation and the eventual erosion of a firm’s service capabilities, competitive edge and eventually market leadership.
