The banking industry has seen a significant increase in both the use of and interest in profitability measurement and analysis tools and related processes, including branch, product, officer, and customer levels of profitability analysis. A profitability initiative can be a considerable undertaking for an organization from both process and cultural perspectives. A profitability steering committee and charter can help institutions define, design, implement, and manage all aspects of a profitability initiative; yet less than 20% of financial institutions choose to leverage a profitability steering committee.
