Saw record highs in mergers and acquisitions globally. The dip caused by the pandemic has long been overcome, the confidence in the boardrooms of the corporations is high and with it the desire for takeovers. Purely organic growth is often not enough to keep up, and investors expect as part of the equity story. At the same time, the trend of focusing on the core business continues and with it the separation of parts of the company that are not part of the core business. Private equity funds are ready, the coffers are fuller than ever. While activist investors continue to provide impetus for additional deals, there are also clouds in the sky. Central banks are beginning to turn around interest rates, making transactions more expensive in the medium term and valuations in some sectors are falling.
