Mexico has unrivaled comparative advantages such as its vast border with the US, a huge transportation network, good established cross-border infrastructure, huge renewable energy potential, a large young and comparatively less expensive workforce, and its status as a signatory to 13 free trade agreements (including the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement). The latter covers important provisions on labor rights, digital commerce, intellectual property protection and dispute
resolution mechanisms.
Despite the many factors that favor nearshoring operations in Mexico, there are also challenges to consider. Some of them are: human talent in specific sectors, the commitment to sustainability under the current administration, regulatory risks, labor issues, operational challenges and structural problems. In this sense, organizations can address risks through key mitigations.
