This conference will discuss next steps for digital competition policy and regulation in the UK, with a particular focus on policy priorities, its implementation and prospects, and what it means for businesses, innovation, and consumer choice.

Building from the Furman Review, the conference takes place against a backdrop of significant policy developments, including:
• the now closed consultation on the Government’s proposals for a pro-competition regime for digital markets
• The Penrose Report - outlining options for promoting competition in the UK, with a focus on consumer protection
• the Government’s overall Plan for Digital Regulation, aimed at governing digital technologies and creating a streamlined regulatory landscape

Discussion will focus on:
• the proposed role, remit, and powers of the Digital Markets Unit
• striking a balance between robust regulation and facilitating innovation
• policy priorities for encouraging dynamism in big tech companies
• developing a fair and transparent code of conduct for firms with Strategic Market Status
• ensuring market intervention promotes competition and priorities for facilitating new market entrants

The discussion is bringing together stakeholders with key policy officials who are due to attend from BEIS; the CMA; DCMS; the DHSC; the EU Delegation to the UK; the Food Standards Agency; the Geospatial Commission; the GLD; HMRC; HM Treasury; the Home Office; the ICO; the NAO; the NCA; Ofcom; the UK Health Security Agency; and the Welsh Government - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from the House of Lords.
