Launching a new investment utilizing the benefits of the OZ program is among one of the most exciting and advantageous opportunities stemming out of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
This program will help guide our audience through a focused approach covering issues such as investments, funds, tax, real estate, and policy issues and considerations. Our team will provide a unique opportunity to hear and speak directly with lawyers and policy team members who are active in this space.
Investment Management Focus
This program will focus on topics and aspects related to investment management and funds that are participating in the OZ incentive. A qualified Opportunity Fund is any investment vehicle organized as a corporation or a partnership for the purpose of investing in and holding at least 90% of its assets in qualified OZ property. The Opportunity Fund may invest in multiple OZs. Any business, individual, trust or estate with capital gains arising from the sale or exchange with an unrelated person of any business or nonbusiness property, including stock, real estate, or personal property, may invest the capital gains in the Opportunity Fund within 180 days of the transaction and enjoy tax deferral on the gains. Gains on investments held at least 10 years in Opportunity Funds can be completely free from federal income tax. The tax benefits could reduce the cost of capital for these projects, making them more viable, especially when paired with other development incentives.
