The 2015 landmark agreement in Paris taught us that the fight against climate change can be won when the world community commits to supporting local efforts. In a time of government austerity and market uncertainty, however, financing for the innovative ideas that have the potential to lead the global transition to a post-carbon society remains elusive. At the same time, the divestment movement has proven that there is significant desire for institutional and other investors to end environment-degrading practices and policies. Where these factors merge, there exists the opportunity to develop financial support mechanisms to promote investment and innovation in communities across the globe.
