In early February 2017, President Trump issued several executive orders that will cause a review of the financial regulatory framework in the United States and globally.
In particular, one such order announces seven ‘core principles’ that will govern the new Administration’s approach to financial regulation. The order also requires the Treasury Department and other financial regulators to produce a report by early June 2017, identifying existing laws, regulations, treaties and other regulatory requirements that either promote or inhibit the core principles. Together, these executive orders, the forthcoming Treasury report on financial reform, and a host of new senior appointments at U.S. agencies will pave the way for significant legal and policy changes to the U.S. financial regulatory framework.
With 2017 set to be a year of change in the U.S. and one of transition in Europe due to regulatory reform and the uncertainty of Brexit, the SIFMA-TCH Prudential Regulation Conference will gather financial researchers, policymakers, practitioners and subject matter experts to provide insight into the possible changes that may reshape the direction of regulation in the year ahead.
