Financial Times Live and Aberdeen Standard Investments in partnership with Pensions Expert, are pleased to present Rethinking DC, an executive forum looking at alternative strategies for generating returns and enhancing member involvement. As markets continue to be volatile, DC schemes need to reassess their approaches to deliver more consistent outcomes. To achieve this, it is essential to understand members’ needs and engage them more in long-term decisions. How can schemes change the mindset of members and encourage them to become more involved in the early stages? How can they educate their members better?

In addition to seeking out ways to enhance member engagement, DC schemes are also focusing on alternative approaches to minimize volatility and achieve adequate outcomes. Can diversified multi-asset growth strategies be the remedy? Should DC plans leave traditional tax-free cash objectives and seek alternative strategies that would work better for them? Amid this search, how can ESG funds help DC schemes in delivering better returns? Would providing clarity to trustees on ESG help them adopt it in their investment decisions?
