This decade will prove critical for energy transition, as significant developments are pushing the industry to nearly double the share of renewable energy sources in the electricity generation mix, increasing from 20.9% in 2020 to over 37% by 2030.
The production of Belgian solar energy surpassed the mark of 7 GW of cumulative PV capacity. This year, Belgium is forecasted to join the ‘GW club’ of markets, adding more than 1 GW annually, stimulated by the EU-wide process of deregulation and liberalization, incentives aimed at fostering the development of RE sources, and the evolving structure of energy distribution. However, constraints related to grid infrastructure may lead to the perpetuation of existing nuclear capacity.
