“IOR: Critical Technologies of the Future,” is the theme of the 2024 conference. An objective recovery factor assessment of today’s producing oilfields would tell us the remaining potential to improve recovery is tremendous. Effectively employing IOR technologies is critical to the future of our industry. It’s time to get ambitious! Our industry is tremendously innovative, entrepenureal and traditionally rate-of-return focused. Our challenge is that IOR processes are typically more strategic in nature, with a unique economic cash flow profile, generally higher OPEX, and more challenging reserve booking scenarios compared to a traditional drilling project. We need to apply the mindset and innovation of the shale revolution to improving recovery factors using IOR processes.
