These Private Equity funds often eschew early stage companies, that are not yet profitable, ie companies that are still at their "venture & growth capital" stage in their evolution. Today, much of this venture capital goes into technological innovation. A different type of investor looks at the higher risk/higher return at this end of the private equity spectrum.
