There are obstacles to the great potential: since the financial crisis, the EU has severely restricted its crossborder business. Banks in Switzerland have no legal entitlement to actively provide banking services to EU clients. Accordingly, much depends on banks in this country succeeding in maintaining their position as one of the world's leading financial centers. But big banks, private banks and cantonal and regional banks are pursuing different strategies in parallel. On the one hand, demands for regulated EU market access for Swiss financial service providers are coming to the fore. On the other hand, massive costs and regulations are feared.
