Kara Schectman is an award-winning storyteller with 15 years of journalism, public relations, marketing, and broadcast experience. Schectman currently works as the Director of Operations and Marketing Strategy for the Wealth Woman and Benchmark Income Group.

Schectman is an active member of the Public Relations Society of America and PRSA Dallas. In 2016, she was awarded the President's Award for Outstanding Service to the chapter. In 2021 she was honored with the PRSA Dallas Pegasus Award for PR Pro of the Year and named to the 40 under 40 list. Schectman's work was also recognized with several Pegasus Awards of honor. She is currently a PRSA Dallas Board Director and served as the 2021 Vice President of Programs.

Before joining the financial sector, Schectman was the Director of Marketing and Communications at the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is to educate and engage the local community in national and international affairs. While at the Council, she implemented strategies that ultimately led the Council to be named 2019 Council of the Year, awarded by the World Affairs Councils of America (top honors for World Affairs Councils). She has also worked for the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) - a global leadership community of chief executives winning many Network awards on behalf of the members. She also worked in broadcast news at KTAL, the NBC affiliate serving Shreveport, LA winning an Associated Press of Texas Award.

Schectman is an active alumnus of the University of North Texas (UNT). She is an active alumnus of the University of North Texas, serving as a board member for the Mayborn School of Journalism and Vice President of the UNT Lettermans' Association. She currently sits on the Mayborn School of Journalism board.
