  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace is a constant discussion theme. Policy changes can only be effective when organizations commit to hire candidates and offer equitable pay for the equal experience. Women with strong social skills may be skilled in negotiation and persuasion. They may bring the fundamental skills of critical thinking, strategic management, and excellent communication. They may even have a technical skillset that allows for exceptional analysis. Yet, change in the workplace can only occur when women become stronger advocates for themselves and employers offer equitable compensation. Women and other underrepresented groups may not feel the privilege afforded to others who are confident or even entitled, in their starting salary negotiation. Taking action to change the imbalance of power and resources is a strong first step in reversing decades of institutional inequity.
