  • "After the Kickstarter, we had to figure out what to do for ourselves to keep that momentum going. Social media is a great way to get people engaged and to connect with your customers. Instagram has really worked for us," says Clark. "We have an influencer program and we gave a light away to about 60 people and they helped us to just get the buzz going. They got the pictures up and got everyone talking about it. Then their followers followed us, and we were able to get the word out to them. It's a visual product, it's aesthetically pleasing, and it's opened doors to many partnerships that have helped us grow."

  • The photosynthetic spectrum in Soltech Solutions' LED lights differs from other grow lights because it hits more than just the red and blue lights that are optimal for plant growth.

"Our spectrum also hits the green light, which is the light you see. Traditional grow lights like the red and blue don't hit the green light," explains Clark. "Those are the optimal grow spectrum lights for harvesting crops or growing plants, but you obviously can't put that in your living room. LED lights are also more efficient than incandescent bulbs and HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulbs, so you save money in the long run. The bulbs are also cool to the touch."

  • The new products include a cordless track light with adjustable beams, which will serve new audiences in professional buildings that are likely to have green walls – another indoor plant trend in places like offices, hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues and hospitals. They're also developing recessed lighting with an adjustable beam for galleries.

"We're hitting the market for those people who maybe want a high-light plant, or maybe they want lemons or a fruit plant on your wall where you can go over and pick your own fruit right off of it," says Clark. "We're not inventing the grow wall. It's just the difference of light."
