Dr. Kenneth L. Williams, CISSP, is the Executive Director, Center for Cyber Defense and a program director for the cybersecurity programs at American Public University System. He is a retired U.S. Army IT officer with 24 years of active service and seven years of federal service as a civilian for the U.S. Army.
Dr. Williams earned his Ph.D. degree in Cybersecurity from Capella University and has focused intently on various aspects of cybersecurity including compliance, governance, and other related aspects of cybersecurity mitigation. Dr. Williams also operated a small business focused on IT/cybersecurity services with the federal government and commercial sectors for several years and assisted several organizations with their cybersecurity issues as a consultant.
Dr. Williams holds current certifications in cybersecurity and information technology including Security+, Network+, Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) and the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3. He has written conference articles on cybersecurity, presented at conferences, and served as a subject matter expert in cybersecurity forums. For his Ph.D. dissertation, he focused on cybersecurity governance using participants from the Department of Defense in the study.
