Jose Minaya is Chief Executive Officer of Nuveen, the investment manager of TIAA. Nuveen is a leading global asset management firm with more than $1 trillion under management offering a comprehensive range of outcome-focused investment solutions designed to secure the long-term financial goals of institutional and individual investors. Its investment specialists offer deep expertise across a comprehensive range of traditional and alternative investments through a wide array of vehicles and customized strategies.
Jose is responsible for Nuveen’s vision, strategy and day-to-day operations. He and his leadership team set and execute key growth initiatives and provide oversight of all investment management teams and client businesses. He serves as chair of the Nuveen Executive Committee and is also a member of the TIAA Executive Committee.
Jose was previously President and Chief Investment Officer, responsible for overseeing all operating and investment activities for more than $1 trillion in assets spanning the globe and covering equities, fixed income, real estate, private markets, natural resources, other alternatives and responsible investments.
Prior to this role he served as president of TIAA’s global real assets division, where he had responsibility for all business activities and strategic direction across real estate, agriculture, timber, infrastructure, energy and alternative credit strategies.
Jose joined TIAA as a fixed income portfolio manager in 2004, and has more than 26 years of investment experience including at AIG Global Investment Group, where he helped drive emerging markets equity transactions, and the investment banking groups at Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan, where his responsibilities included mergers and acquisitions and private equity transactions.
Jose is a distinguished recipient of the 2016 Toigo Blazing Trails award for his demonstrated commitment to the education and leadership of the next generation of financial-services talent. He is the Executive Sponsor of the Inclusion and Diversity initiative for TIAA, working to build and promote a diverse and inclusive environment throughout the enterprise.
He currently serves on multiple boards including the Robert Toigo Foundation, the National Forest Foundation as well as the Investment Company Institute. Jose holds a Bachelor’s in Finance from Manhattan College and an MBA from Dartmouth’s Amos Tuck School of Business.
