Dr. Osten-Garner is the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at Adler University and the Executive Director of Adler Community Health Services. He provides leadership for community engagement and clinical training across Adler University’s three campuses, in addition to the Center for Civic Learning and Community Action and the Center for Adlerian Practice and Scholarship. Dr. Osten-Garner provides clinical and organizational leadership for the three community-embedded clinical training divisions of Adler Community Health Services, two located in the Chicago, IL metro area and the third in the Vancouver, BC metro area. Dr. Osten-Garner provides thought leadership on health care reform, community engagement best practices, and the application of socially responsible practice in clinical work.

Dr. Osten-Garner has been a practicing psychologist for over 17 years with substantial experience in providing substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery services, including to impaired professionals and addressing severe mental health. His work in behavioral health began in 1992, with the preponderance of his time in medical and psychiatric hospitals, from inpatient/residential to outpatient treatment. Dr. Osten-Garner has given numerous presentations and workshops on substance use and treatment, health care reform, training program innovation, human dignity, and community engagement best practices to professionals and community members. He is the first author of Integrating 12-Steps into Psychotherapy published by Sage Publications.
