Laura leads Good Starts Young – The Allstate Foundation’s Youth Empowerment signature program. This work integrates strategic philanthropy and corporate responsibility, which includes corporate volunteerism, cultural and civic initiatives. Support for programs and nonprofit partners focus on service-learning where youth develop social emotional learning skills – intrapersonal, interpersonal and cognitive competence – for life success.

In short, SEL gives young people tools to engage with the world, and importantly, the benefits of SEL apply to every child, regardless of background, socioeconomic status, interests, and aptitudes. For instance, self-management can mean managing emotions, using stress-management strategies, or setting and achieving goals. These skills are essential for young people now, but become even more critical as they enter the workforce and build healthy relationships as adults.
