With more than 20 years of experience in state and local taxation, Matthew has served a broad range of clients in a variety of industries, with a primary focus on state tax optimization, restructuring, and transaction support.
Prior to joining BDO, Matthew was the Worldwide Director of Tax and Treasury at two public companies where he was responsible for all facets of the corporation’s tax function, including federal and international income tax, sales and use tax, state income and franchise tax, property tax, and credits and incentives.
Matthew has extensive experience addressing complex multistate business restructurings that involve a wide range of income, franchise, and sales and use tax issues. He is also experienced with state income and sales and use tax corporate audits, acting as a liaison between the auditors and the client during the audit process. Additionally, he has drafted memoranda and practiced before the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board.
Matthew serves as the BDO Boston Tax Office Managing Principal as well as the State and Local Tax Leader for the national Transaction Advisory practice. Matthew is also an Adjunct Professor at Suffolk University Law School where he teaches multiple courses in tax law.
