Mike Welsh is the Director of Government Affairs at Merkle Science and is responsible for the company’s relationships with international government entities. In his role, Mike provides training, operational, and technical insights to regulators and law enforcement agencies so that they may seamlessly fold cryptocurrency crimes into their financial investigations and collaborate with other agencies around the world.
Previously, Mike spent eight years with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) where he specialized in complex financial crimes and opioid diversion. Prior to his departure, Mike was hand-selected for the Joint Criminal Opioid Darknet Enforcement team (JCODE), a multi-agency task force whose objective was to detect, disrupt, and dismantle the most prolific criminal enterprises that are reliant on the internet or advanced technology to facilitate opioid trafficking. Within JCODE, Mike served as a tactical team supervisor and managed two major threat programs involving darknet drugs and cyber-enabled fraud (non-Africa). Mike witnessed first-hand the powerful role technology plays in combating tech-driven crime.
Shifting into the private sector, Mike led Chainalysis’ early efforts into the public sector, assisting in government liaison and operations with focus on North America and subsections of South America.
