Shomron received his M.D. from the Hadassah School of Medicine of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, before completing his gastroenterology training at Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv. He went on to conduct research at the Presbyterian Columbia University Hospital, New York, and spent a year in China as a visiting Professor at the Sun Yat-sen University Hospital. Currently a Professor of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, Shomron has been the President of the Israel IBD Society, a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Crohn’s & Colitis Organization (ECCO), and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Crohn & Colitis. He is currently a member of the prestigious International Organization of IBD (IOIBD), and a member of the Editorial Board of leading journals, Gut, JCC, and APT.
