He got his start as a college intern for an insurance company in 1976. He is married to Deneen with three children and six grandchildren and is active in his church and the local chapter of the Porsche Club of America. He also is a member Kingdom Advisors and Toastmasters International. His bachelor's degree from Briar Cliff College is in business administration with an emphasis on economics.
