The workload of central bankers was intense during the past year, with officials striving to address both policy and operational challenges in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. At the same time, central banks have continued work on vital initiatives, such as strategic reviews and transformation programmes, as well as on efforts to address climate-related and technological challenges, often in the face of tight budget constraints.

Much of this vital work carried out by public policymakers and by their key partners (including advisory firms, banknotes service providers, financial institutions, market infrastructure providers and technology companies) assisting them, is not recognised. The Central Banking Awards were set up to redress the balance – to highlight the outstanding performance and achievements of individuals and organisations within the entire central banking community.
