The Geneva Association's Women in Insurance Award is the first to celebrate women executives in insurance whose work positively impacts society.

The insurance industry has made great strides in recent years in attracting women employees, and women now comprise 60% of the workforce in insurance. However, they occupy only 19% of board seats and 12% of top officer positions, such as CEO, CFO and COO. Women are not being promoted at the same rate as men.

In a panel session at The Geneva Association's 2021 General Assembly, our re/insurance member CEOs explored how the industry should address this. The takeaways included the need to hire women for business leadership and CEO positions, not just management positions, and to promote based on potential, not just years of experience.

However, in the present context, many younger women in insurance do not see themselves reflected in senior roles. They do not perceive a way to get there themselves.
