Companies need to keep pace with a changing reporting landscape as the SEC ramps up its rulemaking activities, especially with regards to ESG-related disclosures. Attendees will learn about the standard-setting agenda of the FASB, and hear updates on rulemaking, interpretive guidance, frequent comments, and enforcement actions emanating from the SEC. In addition, we have a panel on ethical challenges which qualifies for ethics credit for CPE purposes. Our expert faculty will provide practical approaches to new and complex accounting and disclosure requirements.
After completing this program, participants will be able to:
• Prepare for the SEC rule proposal: “The Enhancement and Standardization of Climate-Related Disclosures for Investors”
• Understand the current regulatory landscape and emerging issues, including the SEC’s proposed rules on cybersecurity
• Anticipate potential rulemaking from the FASB’s technical agenda, including segment reporting and disaggregation of income statement expenses
• Identify changes from reference rate reform and other financial instruments hot topics
• Discuss best practices for drafting MD&A, including key focus areas such as the impact of current geopolitical disruption, ESG matters, cybersecurity, inflation, Brexit, and reference rate reform
• Recall the most frequent areas for SEC comments
• Gain insight on recent SEC enforcement actions, whistleblowing developments and ethical challenges
• Evaluate current accounting and reporting issues based on insight from the prospective of both preparers and auditors
