With 65% of India's population under 35 years of age, the country needs mass employment generators at all skill levels. Also, the diverse pool of talent the country houses needs avenues to showcase their skills. Global capacity centers (GCCs), a strategic extension of multinational corporations in India, serving as hubs for delivering a wide array of business functions has emerged as a hotspot to cater to both India's burgeoning workforce and the talent pool. What’s more? All these and the infrastructure required to set up these mammoth centers come at a cost which no other country can match. Moreover, the geographical location of India makes it the perfect destination for GCCs which are looking to cater to emerging markets.
With more than 1,500 GCCs already in the country across IT, healthcare, BFSI and manufacturing, among others, and companies such as Barclays, Bank of America, EY and Deloitte entering the fray, the country is poised to become the world’s hub for GCCs.
It also augurs well for the country which is looking to diversify beyond services, as innovations at these GCCs will boost other sectors such as manufacturing for which India aims to increase the contribution towards the GDP from the current 17% to 25% by 2047.
It is no wonder that not only India’s central government is encouraging companies to set up GCC shops in India, even states, such as Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, among others, are going all out with aggressive offers to attract GCCs in their respective states.
This event aims to be a springboard and arena for all stakeholders to come together and chart the way forward, and also act as a sounding board ensuring that each step in making India the GCC hub is taken optimally and at a measured pace.
