In Europe, more than 180 cities operate urban rail transport (metrorail/ light rail/ tram/ suburban rail) systems spanning a total network of over 17,000 km and covering 26,000 stations/stops. The industry has developed various tools for operations data analysis and project planning. Organisations are realising the significance of cultural change and human resource development to gain the maximum benefits of asset management programmes.
