Indonesia's banking industry is at a crossroads.
While lending activity is slowly picking up, years of sluggish growth and weak commodity prices have pushed up the number of bad loans in the sector. Rating agency S&P estimates that weak loans are now around 11 percent of the total credit in Indonesia; the highest in Asia. At the same time, emergence of Fintech companies is intensifying competition in the consumer banking space.
How can Indonesia's banking sector cope with the challenges? Is the country able to achieve its target of offering financial services to three-quarters of its population by 2019? We'll assess the state of the banking industry in Southeast Asia's largest economy with our panel of guests.
