The topic of “artificial intelligence” is on everyone’s lips these days. We encounter “AI” in a wide variety of areas of science and research, but also in our daily lives and interactions. In addition to the undisputed great opportunities and possibilities that lie in “AI”, it is also important to examine and evaluate where risks exist or can develop.
With a view to scientific and, in particular, medical applications, artificial intelligence opens up completely new paths and possibilities in the research and development of new diagnostic procedures and therapeutic approaches. The central aspects of optimal patient care and greater patient safety are also addressed.
The ability to evaluate large amounts of data from different sources and compare them with one another offers the opportunity to analyze and better understand processes in the human body in an even more targeted manner. With the discovery of new, sometimes individual interaction paths or interaction partners, efforts towards even more targeted, individualized medicine can be promoted and implemented.
Life, medical and data sciences working together open up new possibilities in healthcare and patient care. This Forum provides a first insight into the great opportunities of these cross-disciplinary activities.
