This phenomena has taken the world by storm and with the $A39 billion acquisition of buy now pay later giant Afterpay last year, the acquisition by Square has highlighted the enormous potential for new players on the block. As regulators globally come under pressure to look at potentially regulating the sector many traditional financial services providers are jumping on the wave of popularity for the service. The $A39 billion acquisition of buy now pay later (BNPL) Afterpay by Square highlights the market potential and has regulators grappling how to manage the emerging market.

On top of this, statistics show the diverse demographic of users is not limited to the under 25, who are using a number of BNPL providers to manage their spending. With the big four banks and other major credit card providers getting into the market, future growth is inevitable.
