Details

Over four intensive days, the IMW includes several case studies and related lectures each day. Often, case protagonists—individuals intimately involved in or directly affiliated with the cases being studied—attend one of the case discussions. In addition, every evening a leader of the asset management industry joins with participants at dinner as a keynote speaker to lend further insights into current investment management issues.

The IMW utilizes the hallmark HBS case method, which is grounded in the real-world challenges of leading and managing a global organization. Throughout the workshop, participants delve into the cases of actual investment firms to define problems, formulate solutions, and convince colleagues of the merits of their respective positions. The case method compels participants to identify relevant issues and apply practical business lessons to their own situations and companies.

Each day, participants gather in small groups to consider the next day’s cases and to analyze possible solutions. These intimate groups are carefully determined by the faculty and are intentionally diverse to encourage participants to share different perspectives and use complementary skills and expertise to prepare for upcoming class discussions.

A distinctive feature of the IMW is that additional topics and new case studies are regularly introduced, ensuring that workshop content is fresh and focused on emerging developments in investment management. The overall content of the workshop is renewed every three years.
