Since the new executive role emerged several years ago, Chief Data & Analytics Officers operating in the Financial Services industry have had to respond quickly to newly emerging threats and opportunities.

Having now largely got to grips with the need to improve data standards in order to ensure regulatory compliance, which drove financial institutions to be early adopters of the position, CDAOs today face the challenge of using data & analytics to deliver real value to their firm, in order to move their function from to a perceived cost center to a clear and vital profit center.

CDAOs must now strive to improve process, discover efficiencies, identify new products or business models, enable digital transformation, improve marketing and customer service, monetize their data, and more. Not only this, but CDAOs must also discover ways to effectively exploit new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud, and Blockchain in order to ensure they are the disruptors, not the disrupted.

As the data & analytics revolution continues through the 21st Century, it is clear that companies which are able to adapt to this brave new world will thrive, whilst those who cannot will fail.
