In October 2020, Debate Security published a report titled “Cybersecurity Technology Efficacy: Is Cybersecurity the new Market for Lemons?” based on interviews with over 100 senior cybersecurity professionals. The report highlighted that 90% of buyers believe that the cybersecurity market is failing because the technology isn’t as effective as it needs to be (the report was also featured in The Economist).
The next step is to catalyse action to address this market failing and raise the bar for cybersecurity technology. The SAFER Cybersecurity Buyer’s Charter, authored by Ciaran Martin and Joe Hubback details a framework of activities designed to drive this change, based on the following principles:
• Symmetry of information between buyer and vendor
• Assessment frameworks and practices
• Freedom of entry and innovation in the market
• Efficacy-based Assurance
• Risk-based decision making
The experts will discuss the need for a Safer Cybersecurity Buyer’s Charter, its founding principles and the approaches required by industry to fix this broken market, in what will be an engaging and thought provoking session, leading to positive change in our industry.
