Ensuring Europe’s Future Energy Security, Accessing Directly The Emerging Energy Powerhouses Of The East Mediterranean
Cyprus recently placed itself on the international map of natural gas producer countries, after the recent discoveries of two of the biggest reservoirs in the Mediterranean basin, Glaucus and Aphrodite. Energy giants owning extraction rights over those fields such as ExxonMobil, Noble Energy, Eni, Total are planning to invest a total of more than $20 billion to facilitate the extraction, liquefaction and export of existing resources.
Most importantly though, the Cypriot government in an effort to reinforce the sustainability of such project and showcasing its trategic direction is driving stake holders to complete infrastructure connection projects with mainland Greece, Egypt and Israel before extractions begins. This drive its pushing the $10.5 billion in total pipeline projects of EastMed and EuroAsia/EuroAfrica Interconnector to move into their construction phases at the earliest.
