In the wake of the pandemic, many European economies’ twin challenges of low economic growth and high government debt will remain absent policy action. In this session, we will discuss Moody’s view on how these issues will affect the credit profiles of the UK and EU member states. We will discuss how the Next Generation EU programme offers some EU members a rare opportunity to address structural growth challenges, and how EU governments plan to deal with debt loads that are higher than ever before. We will also discuss how these twin challenges of growth and debt compare to those of the UK, which is also still dealing with economic uncertainty related to Brexit.
