This conference forms part of a day of special interest sessions comprising seven options. There will be a breakfast, three morning sessions and three afternoon sessions for you to choose from. Both STEP members and non-members are welcome!
Event Focus
In this afternoon session, the newest of STEP’s Special Interest Groups (SIGs), the Digital Assets SIG, will establish why this area is an emerging area of concern for practitioners in their practice of effectively assisting clients and their fiduciaries in planning for and administering the assets of individuals after the individual dies or loses capacity.
Topics include:
• An introduction to digital assets.
• Digital assets: International perspective.
• Electronic signatures: theory and practice.
• Security and privacy issues – who to trust?
• Cybersecurity best-practice and resources.
• An introduction to cryptocurrencies and their taxation.
Why attend?
An international panel of speakers will provide delegates with a robust introduction to digital assets, what they are and why they are important, as well as an update on the status of the law in an international context. Practitioners will be informed of issues of security and privacy and of best-practice in this area with regards to their clients, and educated on the growing importance of electronic signatures, as well as an introduction to cryptocurrencies, their taxation and their categorisation as a new asset class.
