Asia is the largest and most populated continent and the Pacific has huge geostrategic importance for the EU, notwithstanding serious security concerns, such as the Kashmir conflict, Afghanistan, North Korea with its nuclear challenge, and the disputed South China Sea. The region has four EU strategic partners (China, India, Japan and the Republic of Korea), some of the world’s fastest-growing economies, emerging global powers, and two-thirds of the world’s poor.
