As Australia reopens, its businesses face the uncertainty of finding their way in the newest normal. Geopolitical upheavals have affected many aspects of commerce; policy stimulus rollbacks, inflation and supply chain displacements have taken their toll; upward pressure on interest rates, soaring real estate prices and high levels of household debt are a deadly combination; and safe havens for investment are becoming fewer. And while high commodity prices are lifting many parts of Australia’s economy, added volatility still poses risks.

Fitch trimmed its growth forecast for Australia in 2022 to 4.5% from the AAA median of 3.6%. Will Australia be able to successfully ride the commodities boom? As climate change brings greater flooding and other natural disasters, are ESG ratings and investing the right approach to a sustainable future? Are we entering a stagflation period, with dwindling growth and rising consumer prices? Could a central bank mis-step launch a recession within the next two years? And, most importantly, how will Australia land when the new normal of unprecedented geopolitical threats, pandemic policy reactions and strong inflation permanently change the way the world is run?

Join us at the upcoming Fitch on Australia conference – in person – as a roster of compelling speakers address these themes and other pressing questions.
